While Canelo Alvarez appears to be ducking Gennady Golovkin and costing boxing fans the fight they so much desire, Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward put on a high-anticipated fight on the fast-track and already have a tentative fight set.

Kovalev and Ward had signed an agreement to fight a while ago on the contingent that each remain undefeated through their interim bouts and now it has been announced that, that fight will take place on Nov. 19 on an HBO PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Kovalev and Ward can be argued as being two of the elite pound-for-pound fighters in the world and has been a super fight that both fans have been calling for and the two fighters have been very open to having. But while Kovalev is currently the unified light heavyweight champion, Ward simply needed time to establish himself in a higher weight class after moving up from super middleweight, where he was the world champion.

Ward looked spectacular in his debut at the 175 weight class with a one-sided decision over Sullivan Barrera on March 26. Ward has a sight date set for July 30 as well at the Oracle Arena in his hometown of Oakland, California, but still does not have an opponent set.

Was must establish himself as Kovalev’s equal by the time the fight happens with a fairly significant victory as Kovalev has run roughshod through the division. He won his first belt in 2013 by stopping Nathan Cleverly in the fourth round and successfully defended his WBO light heavyweight title with three early knockouts before gaining the WBA Super and IBF light heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over the legendary Bernard Hopkins in 2014. Kovalev has since dominated Jean Pascal twice and earned a TKO victory over Nabjib Mohammedi in three rounds. He has a fight against Isaac Chilemba schedule on July 11 in Russia.

Kovalev and Ward are showing the boxing world exactly how easy it is to make big fights happen as this has been in the works for over a year, Ward moved up in weight and now before the fight is even actually ready to happen they have it set up.

It just shows that all the excused Alvarez makes, or all the reasons why a Kovalev vs. Adonis Stevenson fight never happened, it just takes two guys actually wanting to be a part of a mega fight and wanting to prove they are the best to make it happen. There has never even been a discussion of doubt this fight wouldn’t happen. Why? Because Kovalev and Ward just want to meet in the ring and they are making it happen.

You could say Corey was born to become a sports journalist. His father won a national championship coaching college soccer. His mother is a baseball fanatic who hasn't missed seeing an Orioles game since 1983 (literally, sometimes it's annoying). His great uncle was a big-time boxing promoter and his maternal grandfather was once a department head at the Baltimore Sun. Basically, sports and journalism run through his blood. He played just about every little league sports there was when he was a kid and was a multi-sport athlete in high school; even playing in the first-ever high school sanction Rugby game in the country. Eventually he retired from sports as an undefeated Maryland state Rugby champion as a high school senior. Perhaps lack of athletic talent has more to do with the retirement, but he will tell you that it more had to do with a great desire to jump right into media. Upon his graduation from University of Maryland, Baltimore County as a triple communications major, Corey started the So Much Sports network and has continued to grow his websites and continues to work to make them premier sports media outlets.
