NHL rookies are making an impact scoring

This year’s NHL rookie class has had an incredible impact when it comes to scoring goals. There are multiple first-year players putting up impressive numbers offensively and find themselves at the top of the leaderboard with the best players in the game. Here are this year’s top five

5. Anthony Mantha, C, Detroit Red Wings

The 22-year-old Canadian center has been a bright spot in a rather disappointing season for the Red Wings. Anthony Mantha has a big physical presence in front of goal and has utilized his size well enough to record 11 goals in 32 appearances. In addition, he’s shown some fantastic marksmanship with a handful of well-placed goals into the top corner.

4. Mitchell Marner, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

Mitchell Marner has had a terrific rookie season, as he currently leads all rookies in points and assists But he also is one of the top goal scorers as well. He’s a quick player with excellent hands that has the vision to make big plays happen. As a rookie, he’s been nothing short of impressive with his composure and hunger for goals.

3. Sebastian Aho, RW, Carolina Hurricanes

At just 19, Sebastian Aho is already making his name known in the NHL. The Finnish right-winger is having a tremendous season with the Hurricanes and has played in every game for the club. He is a hard worker who has scored from just about everywhere this season. From down low to the circle, he’s done it all. A very promising career appears to be on the horizon for this young player.

2. Patrik Laine, RW, Winnipeg Jets

Patrik Laine has proven his worth in his first season in the NHL. Before suffering a concussion recently, he was right in the battle for the league’s top goal scorer. His natural goal-scoring ability makes him a dangerous player, and his wrist shot wreaks havoc on goaltenders all over the league. The Finland native has netted 21 goals in 42 appearances.

1. Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

Auston Matthews is by far the top player in this year’s rookie class. He has the complete package that everyone was talking about coming into this season. A quick player who knows how to use his body and put the puck into the back of the net. Goal scoring comes naturally to him and in many different varieties. He will be most definitely be a star for years to come.
