Jim Thorpe was the first super athlete. Not only was he one of the greatest football players in history he also played professional baseball and was an Olympic track and field star. Thorpe also played basketball, hockey, lacrosse, swam, played archery and tennis and boxed. In the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden, Thorpe participated in the pentathlon and decathlon, the two sports that were made to determine the greatest athlete in the world. Thorpe won gold in both events. He had the best Long Jump, 200-meter dash, Discus throw and 1,500 meter run in the Pentathlon and top mark in the shot put, high jump, 110 meter hurdles, and 1,500 meter run in the Decathlon. He finished top five in every event. On the gridiron, Thorpe played in an era where no statistics were kept, but stood out as a great tailback and was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. As a baseball player he batted .252 over his seven-year career.
