Red AuerbachRed Auerbach

No coach in a professional sport dominated quite like Red Auerback dominated the NBA. From 1956 to 1966, Auerbach led the Boston Celtics to 10-straight NBA Championships and won nine, including eight-straight from 1959 to 1966 and won 71.9-percent of his games in that span (554-216). Over the course of his 16-year coaching career with the Celtics, Auerbach went 792-397 and went to the playoffs every year, this after the Celtics failed to win 25 games each of the four seasons before the got there. Auerbach only one one NBA Coach of the Year award (1965, the first award was given in 1963) but was an 11-time NBA All-Star Game Head Coach and after his retirement from coaching he won seven NBA Champions as an executive and was the 1980 NBA Executive of the Year. Auerbach coaches the Washington Capitols and Tri-Cities Blackhawks before taking over the Celtics job. In his 20-year coaching tenure in the NBA his teams went 938-479 (66.2%) in the regular season and 99-69 (59.9%) in the playoffs. Auerbach coaches 11 Hall of Famers and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 1969.
