Mickey Mantle

For almost an entire generation of baseball fans, Mickey Mantle was the face of the sport they will always know. His seven World Series Championships, three AL MVPs and 20 All-Star bids speak for his greatness. In 1956 Mantle hit for the Triple Crown and that was not the first time he led the league in home runs. He did that four times and finished his career with 536 to go with a .298 batting average, 2,415 hits and 1,509 RBIs. He was the best in big games and still holds World Series record with 18 home runs, 40 RBIs, 26 extra-base hits, 42 runs, 43 walks and 123 total bases. While Mantle is known as perhaps the greatest offensive centerfield in history more than his defense at a position that has produced some of the greatest defensive outfielders in history, Mantle did earn a Gold Glove Award in 1962.
