Bruce Lee

While Bruce Lee never officially fought in a world tournament, and therefore cannot be eligible as an actual athlete, there is little question about his influence and contribution to the growth of martial arts as perhaps the greatest master ever. Lee, who was born in San Francisco but raised in Hong Kong, taught Jun Fan Gung Fu upon his return to the states. In a world where combat sports was dominated by self-powered hand-to-hand combat, he demonstrated the key to utilizing an opponent’s momentum against them to generate massive forced despite whatever size or strength disparity there might be. Lee created the martial arts form Jeet Kune Do and used his star power in movies to continue to bring martial arts into everybody’s home. Without Lee, martial arts may not have gained the grand exposure it had by him.
