EPL Match Day 26 Preview

Harry Kane’s hat trick against Fulham could be a spark Tottenham needs for their strong push down the stretch of the season.

Tottenham vs Stoke City

Tottenham should roll over Stoke City here. Tottenham is a team on a mission after losing to Liverpool in their last EPL match and took some frustration out on Fulham in their FA Cup match last week. On top of having one of the better offenses in the league, they have the best defense, allowing just 18 goals in 25 matches.

That is really going to make things tough on a Stoke City squad that has only scored 30 goals this EPL season. Stoke City is doing well defensively too, so it could be a low-scoring match, and they have earned 1-1 draws against both Everton and Manchester United recently. That does make things a bit unpredictable, but Tottenham just has some real fire under them.

Crystal Palace vs Middlesbrough

Both teams need a win in this game, a tie might as well be a loss. Middlesbrough is currently three points head of Crystal Palace in the EPL Table and two points up from the relegation zone, but have the fewest number of EPL wins and fewest number of goals scored.

The Boro have only scored 19 goals this season, and have not won an EPL match since a 3-0 victory over Swansea on Dec. 17. Since then they’ve only scored three goals in eight EPL matches. But they’re coming off a 3-2 victory over Oxford United in the Emirates FA Cup and will look to carry on some momentum.

The Eagles haven’t struggled to score goals as much, but still aren’t great at it and with 19 points are tied for last place in the EPL standings. The Boro’s defense has at least been one of the best in the EPL, which may make things especially difficult for a side that can’t have much confidence.

Chelsea vs. Swansea City

League leaders Chelsea will look to continue their impressive home record when they host Swansea City on Saturday. The Blues have winless against their opponents in the last three meetings.

Diego Costa will be a player to watch for Chelsea, as the striker has scored seven goals in his career against Swansea. Gylfi Sigurdsson has scored four goals against Chelsea in his career and will be on to watch for Swansea.

Only four points separate Swansea from the drop zone and a win will certainly put them further out of harm ways. This could be a trap game for Chelsea, who cannot afford to see their lead on the rest of the league fall to five points.

Leicester City vs. Liverpool

This will be the first match for Leicester City without former manager Claudo Ranieri. The club parted way with the man who had led them to the Premier League title the previous season. They currently are in 17th place in the table and are in danger of being relegated.

In the first meeting between the two sides in September, Liverpool won 4-1 in emphatic fashion. Roberto Firmino scored a brace in the victory and is expected to be in the team selected for the match.

Liverpool find themselves right in a tense battle for the Champions League places with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham. A loss or draw would do them no on Monday. Look for them to be an aggressive side that may try and exploit the low morale of the Leicester side.

West Brom vs Bournemouth

West Brom loves to attack while Bournemouth wants to be patient and wait for their openings. That will make for a very interesting chess match in this game but both teams are trending in very different directions.

West Brom has gone unbeaten in their last four matches and are 3-2-1 in EPL games since the beginning of 2017. On the other hand, Bournemouth has only two points since the start of the new year and have loss to lowly teams like Hull City and Crystal Palace.

Watford vs West Ham

Two middling teams in the EPL, both Watford and West Ham are pushing for a top 10 finish. West Ham, though, is more explosive offensively, especially if Andy Carroll is back in the mix. His availability it a bit of a question though. He was out for a few games with an injury and had a setback. However, he is expected to play and even off the bench that could be a big boost for the Hammers.

If he’s not available in any capacity, it will be a bit of a tougher game for the Hammers. It wasn’t too long ago that Watford beat Arsenal. This is a team that has a lot of momentum and self belief.

Hull City vs Burnley

Hull City have shown better form in the last five matches and have any opportunity to win a key match at home against Burnley. The home side will have striker Abel Hernandez in the lineup and his reintroduction will be welcomed by the club. They have scored a majority of their goals at home this season and Hernandez could be back on the mark this weekend.

Burnley have struggled on the road and have yet to win a match away this season. They have been outscored five to 24 as well in away fixtures. On the bright side, they have not lost to Hull City in five Premier League matches.

Everton vs Sunderland

This is a complete mismatch on paper, but could be a susprise. Everton may not be a top notch team in the EPL this year but are unbeaten in eight-straight league games. Sunderland meanwhile is tied for last place in the table with only 19 points. Interestingly, Sunderland’s season has been filled with surprising results, both good and bad and they have a team filled with former Everton players.

It’s still hard to see anything other than an Everton win in this fixture, but it could also be a trap game.

Southampton vs. Arsenal and Manchester City vs. Manchester United games both postponed for EFL Cup Finals.
