A-Rod: Slump No More

By: Bobby Lubaszewski Alex Rodriguez has finally done it. In the 1st inning of today’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, A-Rod blasted his 600th career homerun, becoming not just the 7th player in MLB history to accomplish the feat, but also the youngest. What is more important is that this, hopefully, marks the end of Rodriguez’s hitting slump.  A span that had seen the slugger go 0-15 before hitting this magical milestone. During A-Rod’s quest for 600, the Yankees had managed to slip out of 1st place in the AL East – losing their division lead to the Tampa Rays. Perhaps…

Orioles Undefeated…Sort of

By: Bobby Lubaszewski The Orioles beat the LA Angels 6-3, in Buck Showalter’s debut as Baltimore’s manager. In a season where nothing has seemed to go right for the Birds, perhaps there is a silver lining to the whole season – at least as a life-long Orioles’ fan I hope so. The Baltimore faithful, as few as we may be now-a-days, are hoping (praying) that this new skipper can turn around a franchise that has not had a winning season since 1997.  To put this into perspective for everyone, since the Orioles’ last decent year, we have moved into a…

Favre: The Boy Who Cried Wolf?

By: Bobby Lubaszewski Sources are reporting that Brett Favre will retire from the NFL before the start of the 2010-2011 season, never to take a snap again. First off, who are these sources and where are these reports coming from? Coaches and players appear to be completely in the dark. Ryan Longwell, Favre’s teammate of 10 year, said he spoke to Brett today and received no indications that the quarterback had decided to hang up his helmet. Even Viking’s coach Brad Childress is clueless to the situation – not that he has ever had any sort of control over Favre. But…

By: Bobby Lubaszewski With NFL Hall of Fame enshrinement approaching, I reclined back in my bed and pondered; who continues to be snubbed by the voters? So here are my top 10 players who should be in the HOF – the Raiders lead the way with 4 snubs.  Don’t worry, my list does not look anything like the NFL Network’s list. In Fact, the “professionals” at the NFL Network and I only agree on two players – though a few players on their list have recently been enshrined.  Who is right?  You be the judge… 10. Ray Guy, P Yes, I am…

Brett Favre Expected To Retire; This Time For Good

It will be his third time saying he’s going to retire, but this time Brett Favre seems like he’s for real. Favre informed the Minnesota Vikings that he will not return for a 20th season in the NFL, and instead retire. Neither Favre nor the Vikings have confirmed the retirement, but Favre sent a text message to teammates saying, “This is it.” It was reported by Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Favre decided against coming back because he did not feel like his surgically repaired ankle will be healthy enough for him to compete this season. I…
